Week One: "There's more in you than you know."
Summer RYLA is where the magic happens. During the Week One program, students learn important leadership skills, discover more about themselves, and form strong new friendships; all on the beautiful Lake Norwich in the mountains of Western Massachusetts.
The theme of Summer RYLA Week One is "There's more in you then you know." We believe that there is a leader without limits within everyone, and RYLA brings that leader out, whether you are the president of your class or you've never been in a leadership position in your life. Led by RYLA's chairpersons Thud Hill and Jacki Yonick, sessions each day will delve into a particular aspect of leadership, such as "The Power of Your Thoughts", "The Power of Authentic Relationships", and "The Power of "The Power of the Written Word". Students will reflect on the lessons, participate in small "break-out sessions," complete various assignments, and participate in activities run by the Youth Committee. The week also includes a resume writing workshop and mock job interview to help students in their professional futures. During non-program time, students have the freedom to enjoy the lake and our giant water trampoline, relax in a hammock, play volleyball, or try something new like horseback riding or archery!
